Description
Titled “Northern River” this print is a reproduction of a ca. 1914 oil painting by Group of 7 artist Tom Thomson. The scene likely painted in his Toronto studio was inspired by a sketch completed over the winter, possibly in Algonquin Park. The painting was produced as Thomson was entering the peak of his short art career and is considered one of his most notable works. In 1915 the original was purchased by the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa and has remained in the collection ever since. The print is double matted with a v-groove having a white top mat and black trim. It is framed in a concave dark mahogany frame that has light brow and gold highlights, along with a rustic gold lip.
