About the Print: This print is a rendition of an original artwork created by anonymous England-based street artist Banksy. Titled “Balloon Girl” or sometimes called “Girl with Balloon” it is one of Banksy’s most important works, demonstrating the graffiti stencil technique for which he has become renowned around the world. The print shows a young girl standing with her dress and hair blowing in the wind, releasing, or reaching for, a red heart-shaped balloon. The toy may have slipped from her hands and flying out of reach or descending to her from above. The girl is kept in black, with red as the only color in the artwork. The print is framed with a white top mat with a beveled black core, framed with a 2″ flat black moulding.
Banksy originally painted the “Balloon Girl” scene in 2004 on a white wall on Vestry street/Old Street, in London UK. After many other renditions of the scene, he produced a framed print of the original design in 2006 that went to auction at Sotheby’s. As son as the bidding closed, the artwork began to shred itself leaving only the top portion of the print. The action was deemed a form of performative art and brought even more fame to the artist and his work.
